aussiecanuck46 Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 This article might help you. It discusses a commercial product that addresses the lack of security on USB ports within Windows.
ssmokee Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 If you dont have any USB devices hooked up to the computers, you could simply disable USB in BIOS.
Porn Loader Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 you should be able to restrict usb drives using group policy.
Ghostrider Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 (edited) Try this..First, create a whole new key: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control \ StorageDevicePolicies. Then create a REG_DWORD entry in it called WriteProtect. Set it to 1 and you'll be able to read from USB drives but not write to them.EDIT see here for more info http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;555324 Edited November 22, 2005 by Ghostrider
cluberti Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 The key can be added in Group Policy, as well.
Aegis Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 Remove the USB drivers or create a custom image in Windows XP Embedded.
cluberti Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 As a previous poster stated, you will need to create the following registry value:Key: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePoliciesValue: WriteProtectType: REG_DWORDValue: 1This key will not exist, so you will have to create it yourself to enable the write protection to external storage devices.
