If you've got XP, you've already got a version of IE that came with Windows, and there aren't any easy ways to go about reinstalling IE6 on WinXP. You could try doing a repair installation from the Windows CD, or you could run sfc /scannow from a command prompt to see if that fixes the broken files.

A repair installation is not necessary.. I run into this alot when cleaning pc's infected with spyware. This will stop the "Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer already installed on this system.

Setup cannot continue." error

start

run

regedit

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}

Change the Dword Value for "IsInstalled" FROM 1 TO 0

(This will make Windows think Internet Explorer 6 is not installed)

exit registry editor

Let this complete

Once this is done re-run your installation
