HawkAgent Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 My current IE6 is a bit messed up, and I want to reinstall it. I dowloaded the IE6 sp1 setup, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=enbut when I open it it says the setup cannot continue because I have a newer IE.Anyone know how to solve this?
cluberti Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 If you've got XP, you've already got a version of IE that came with Windows, and there aren't any easy ways to go about reinstalling IE6 on WinXP. You could try doing a repair installation from the Windows CD, or you could run sfc /scannow from a command prompt to see if that fixes the broken files.
chilifrei64 Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 (edited) A repair installation is not necessary.. I run into this alot when cleaning pc's infected with spyware. This will stop the "Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer already installed on this system.Setup cannot continue." errorstartrunregeditNavigate to:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}Change the Dword Value for "IsInstalled" FROM 1 TO 0(This will make Windows think Internet Explorer 6 is not installed)exit registry editorLet this completeOnce this is done re-run your installation Edited November 6, 2005 by chilifrei64
MHz Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Just wondering if that trick worked. It is a Microsoft Support trick so I would think so.
