  1. My screen went black suddenly while only surfing on the internet with firefox, also the HDD led went off. Could it be my video card?
  2. I'm running at 1920x1080 @60hz on my monitor, and 800x600 @29hz on my tv. Not sure if my video card support those heat/health monitor programs, though I can try download and run them. I think it might be useful having a monitoring program log all events (like gpu core temp) when next freeze occurs. If you know any good programs I'd really appreciate it. Also I just finished checking my harddisk for bad sectors with the windows diagnostic tool, no errors found.
  3. Thanks for the reply. I tested my memory with memtest86+ twice, passed both without any errors.
  4. Recently I've upgraded few parts of my pc because my old mobo failed, my current specs are: Asus P8P67 PRO B3 (new part) Intel Core i7 2600K 3.4 GHz 8MB (new part) G.Skill 8GB DDR3 (new part) EVGA Geforce 8800 GTS Superclocked, 320 MB, GDDR3, PCI Express x16 Hitachi Deskstar T7K500, 320 GB, 7200 RPM, 16 MB, SATA II Windows 7 64 bit @1920x1080 I have two displays connected to my GPU, my 24" monitor (connected via DVI) and my old tv (connected via TV-OUT). I have multiple display enabled on extended desktop mode, primary display is my monitor. One time, my parents downloaded some movie and were watch them on the secondary screen (the tv) and I was playing sims 3 (a videogame) on the monitor, both the monitor and tv went black, however the pc was still on, although I noticed the HDD LED on my system case was off and wasn't blinking anymore,as opposite of usual, on that time I assumed my GPU overheated or something, because I lost both signals to the displays. Then the next day, also when my parents were watching a movie and I was playing the game, the computer suddenly froze, even the image froze, nothing moved. Also this time the HDD LED was off and stopped blinking. I find it weird because the first time it was clear my gpu failed because I lost video signals, but could it be my hard disk which is failing, or is it something else I'm overlooking? I'm confused, I hope you guys can help me out.
  5. This website has got many pages, the url naming follows pattern, for example: http://thesite.com/page1.html http://thesite.com/page2.html ... to http://thesite.com/page1000.html On each of these pages there are several pictures shown. What I want to do is to download one specific kind of picture on each webpage to my computer, so in this example I end up with 1000 pictures. The picture's url is partly randomized, but there is also a static part so it is possible to filter this out for each webpage. I'm fairly skilled in PHP. From what I remember this is not possible with php though (it's not possible to get source of another webpage?). In C++ this should all be possible, however I'm not too familiar with this language. So my question is, is there any easy programming language (preferable about the same syntax as php) this is possible in?
  6. So I took out my mobo from the case and searched but couldn't find anything that is burnt. I removed everything from the mobo, seated my cpu and plugged in the case speaker, connected the power chord with the mobo and connected a fan to the psu to check when it's powered on. Connected the powerswitch to the mobo, tried to run the computer, but still the constant reboot is going on, I hear no beep. From this I can only conclude either my cpu or my mobo is broken. I think i'm just gonna take this chance to upgrade my system (Have been working on this pc for 4 years) I want to thank all of you guys helping me, giving me all the feedback and such
  7. Oh i think i misunderstood. Yes, normally it does beep at POST, but now it doesn't beep, supposedly because it doesn't get to the POST screen. I'm still in progress getting a floppy with the correct bios files, but will it also work if I put the recover bios files on an usb stick and boot on usb? Is this at all possible?
  8. Motherboard: GigaByte GA-965P-DS4 rev 2.0 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo (Allendale), E6400, Socket 775 RAM: TwinMos Memory Kit, 2048 MB, DDR2, PC6400, 800 MHz VGA: EVGA Geforce 8800 GTS Superclocked, 320 MB, GDDR3, PCI DVD: Samsung SH-S183L, Serial ATA150, Black I have tried booting with only cpu and psu, still no beeping whatsoever.
  9. Today I unmounted the PSU and let it checked by a pro, he did the short green to black to see if it's working, and indeed the psu is fine. I have located the two bios blocks on my motherboard, but I don't see any jumpers nearby. The only jumpers I see are the clr_cmos jumpers. I took a picture of my mobo so you guys can see it, maybe I'm overlooking something The red circle should be the clr_cmos, and the green circle indicates where the backup and main bios modules are. Also I have found under page 59 in the manual BIOS Recovery: Backup to Main The means that the Backup BIOS works normally and could automatically recover the Main BIOS. (This auto recovery utility is set by system automatically and can’t be changed by user.) So this explains why there are no jumpers to choose which bios to boot from? My motherboard is rev 2.0, I have found the drivers on the gigabyte website, for now I can't do anything with it though because I don't know where I can get access to a system that supports floppy's, all computers I can use doesn't have a floppy drive. Actually my computer doesn't have a floppy drive either, but I do have an old floppy drive lying around somewhere so I might eventually get it to work. It would be alot easier if I can use USB to boot, but is this at all possible?
  10. I unhooked the power cord from the motherboard, removed the battery and placed a jumper on the two pins overnight, haven't worked. I tried removing my vga card, ram, hdd, cd, it still does the same, runs for 1 sec then powers off, run for 1 sec then powers off and again and again. I have not been able to remove the cpu because it kinda have been securely mounted, and removing it would be a real trouble. What do you guys think is the problem?
  11. I've tried booting without HDD and DVD drive, still the same. Unfortunately I don't have any spare power supply unit I can use, what can I do?
  12. Yes I did try resetting the cmos by putting a jumper on the two pins, I used a jumper from another motherboard that was lying around. Also tried re-installing the battery, nothing seems to work I figured out when I hold the reset button while booting the pc does keep running, although that's it, it seems only some fans are running, I get no output signal to the monitor. When I unhold the reset button the pc goes back to the loop of running for 1 sec then powers off and again and again.
  13. Where do I check if it's award or ami bios? I think Award, all the screenshots of the bios configuration screen in the manual says CMOS Setup Utility Copyright © - 1984-2006 Award Software
  14. In my motherboards manual it says I can 'clear cmos' by putting a jumper onto two specific pins, I assume clearing cmos means resetting bios? Will this work? Edit: done this, still the same...
  15. So one day I was doing my things on the pc, then suddenly i got the blue screen of death. I press the restart button, then instead of going straight to windows, the bios decides to update himself (I see a progress bar alternately saying 'updating bios' and 'erasing old bios'), I thought ok cool update means better right? However then it says bios update failed, since then it fails to boot. I press power button, after 1 sec it automatically powers off. Also nothing shows up on the monitor. I'm desperate. What should I do? My motherboard is Gigabyte S-Series 965P-DS4
  16. Thanks for the reply. I have one HD, partition 1 (C:) has 7,50GB free space out of 20 GB, partition 2 (D:) has 178 GB free space of 278 GB I have 2 GB RAM Number of processes according to task manager including firefox and MSN: 44
  17. I've recently reformatted my HD and installed Windows 7, since then I've been getting freezes at random moments. Sometimes I can use the PC for many hours straights without problems, however sometimes the freeze happens just few minutes after boot. The freezes look like this: I can still move the cursor, but when I click start or if I want open a new program nothing happens, however when I was running MFC when freezing and it was still playing a video, I can still watch the entire video without problem, I can even rewind back to watch it again, also I can still move the MFC window. Hence, I suspect this occurs due to HD failures? Any tools out there that I can use to check that? Thanks in advance!
  18. Thanks for the help, I connected the fans now. Does this look OK? Temperatures seems to be high? :S
  19. Hello, In order to replace some hardware components I had to unmount both of my case fans, one on the rear of the case, the other one is mounted on the heatsink of the CPU. I remounted both fans, however I forgot which jumpers to connect to. The manual of my motherboard tells me I have three connectors to choose of: CPU_FAN, SYS_FAN (both 4 pin connectors) and PWR_FAN (3 pin connector). Which fan belongs to which jumper? Thank you in advance. edit: Also, do I have to connect the fans to the power supply if already connected to the motherboard?
  20. Hello, thanks for the reply! I'm getting kinda confused. I have to turn the file sharing off under folder options, do you mean Properties, tab Shared, the option 'Make this folder private' ?, because that option is disabled on my current Windows, as displayed on the following screenshot Also I gotta got lost when you said "When in the security tab, click Advanced > Owner." Where can I find this? Thanks, Wailon
  21. Hello, Lately I've been having a problem with a virus, now I can't even log into my Windows account (which is password protected) anymore, however there are some files which are important so I had to find a way so I can access my files. so I installed new instance of Windows XP on an other partition, however the files in the old 'documents and settings' folder seems to be locked, because when I try to open it it says 'Access Denied'. Is there anyway I can get into my files? Thanks in advance, Wailon
  22. Uninstall it, download a newer package and install that. I have done that. The avi now can be played by media player classic, but it doesn't play the video, only the audio. But it still plays normally with nero showtime... Seems like this time it's a codec problem? Though I just uninstalled the codec pack cccp (http://www.cccp-project.net/) and downloaded the new one. I don't have other codec packs installed.
  23. Already tried this, no luck tho So I gotta remove this codec? That's a confirmed issue with Athlon 64-based processors and Winpooch, if Winpooch intercepts a command. DEP probably won't get triggered if Winpooch didn't block any requests. If you have the above configuration, DEP has been known to close Explorer.exe or another legit Windows component! My processor is an Intel, and I never used Winpooch
  24. Ok I followed the steps. Some steps weren't 100% clear: for "8. Type the application executable name of the application that is crashing, then press the TAB key" I filled the whole path of Media Player Classic: "C:\Program Files\Media Player Classic\mplayerc.exe" (inclusive quotes) 10. Open the application that is crashing; Should the app crash now? On this step I just opened the avi and let media player classic crash step 11; I opened a new cmd because the first one won't let me typ ("gflags" is still running) I ran "cscript adplus.vbs -crash -pn mplayerc.exe -o c:\adplus" twice, I don't know why but the first log is 37kb, the second is 108mb. First crash log: See below Second crash log: Download here: http://www.mytempdir.com/1290236 _FIRST_Crash_Mode__Date_04_10_2007__Time_20_21_37PM.zip
