Installing chinese fonts with IE 5.0 without upgrading

I have IE 5.00.2614.3500 (installed with win98se) is it possible to install a chinese font without touching the IE? I try to d/l the font with autodetect but it doesn't work. it says "Component download failed. Try installing the components listed by choosing 'Windows Update' under the internet explorer 'tools' menu.

I don't use IE and don't need to upgrade it. I just want to view chinese with firefox (not CJK..NJWIN..) Anyway to d/l and install the "MingLiU" font.. big5.. Thanks.

What's the problem with upgrading or not upgrading IE to 5.5SP2 ?
