purg99 Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Ive never had a codec problem before but always relied on codec packs to do the work for me.Just been testing an unattended rebuild that worked without a problem. Then came the time I wanted to watch a movie (xvid)!!! After running the full klite codec pack and using windows media player. The picture is washed out and a little corrupted aka unwatchable. So I thought it could have been the pack, so uninstalled and installed a pack I used to use (Gordian.Knot.Codec.Pack.1.9) but the exact same problem.Gspot says I have the xvid codec installedFile properties agree the codec is xvidMplayer properties codec said XviD MPEG-4 Video DecoderAnd this is what I don’t understandIf I boot the computer into safe mode the movies play without problemIve tried other players, mplayer 6.4 & vlc both with no changeHELP this is driving me crazy
Mercury_22 Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Try DivX Play Bundle it's free!http://download.divx.com/divx/DivXPlay.exeOR check this site http://www.free-codecs.com/I use only divx ,CyberLink Powerdvd and CyberLink PowerEncoder MPEG4 AVC Edition(for H.264 codec) and that's all i need to watch movies (avi mpg divx xvid .....)
n7Epsilon Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 (edited) Do you have an nVidia Card ?There was a bug in the release before 77.77 that caused this issue...Try updating to the latest drivers (81.85) from here:http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.85.html Edited October 28, 2005 by ChipCraze23
purg99 Posted October 28, 2005 Author Posted October 28, 2005 Do you have an nVidia Card ?There was a bug in the release before 77.77 that caused this issue...Try updating to the latest drivers (81.85) from here:http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.85.htmlMy godI doubt I would ever have thought the graphics driver could shag up something that looked like a codec problem.I was using a guru3d forceware 77.72 driver for a nVidia 6800GT cardYour link to 81.85 driver didnt like something leaving me in a 640 x 4colour screen. I think that driver is for a 64bit setup.Went back to guru3d and grabbed 79.11http://194.71.11.70/pub/games/PC/guru3d/nv...ru3D.com%5D.exe(link taken for a europe download)Worked like a charmThank you
n7Epsilon Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Actually the driver clearly is for 32-bit CPUs...But you can try here:http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.aspif you have any driver related problems...Anyway, glad you fixed your problem...
