totoymola Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 (edited) Hi.I saw a commandline utility before that will search for all nearby computers (computers in the domain). I can't remember if it is a default tool in Windows XP or if it is a resource kit tool. Darn I can't remember!I know the DSQUERY and other DS* tools, but I don't have it in my current XP system. I don't know why.. And I also need to use this on a Windows 2000 computer. And oh, by the way, is there a commandline utility that will let us copy file/s to a remote computer? I'm not sure if ROBOCOPY can do that. Please refresh my memory. Thanks! Edited October 22, 2005 by totoymola

totoymola Posted October 23, 2005 Author Posted October 23, 2005 to list the computers in the domain/workgroup net viewto copy from one pc to a remote pccopyxcopyHey thanks for reminding me about the NET VIEW! I totally forgot to try that. About copying files remotely, how do you use COPY and XCOPY? Copies one or more files to another location. COPY [/D] [/V] [/N] [/Y | /-Y] [/Z] [/A | /B ] source [/A | /B] [+ source [/A | /B] [+ ...]] [destination [/A | /B]] source Specifies the file or files to be copied. /A Indicates an ASCII text file. /B Indicates a binary file. /D Allow the destination file to be created decrypted destination Specifies the directory and/or filename for the new file(s). /V Verifies that new files are written correctly. /N Uses short filename, if available, when copying a file with a non-8dot3 name. /Y Suppresses prompting to confirm you want to overwrite an existing destination file. /-Y Causes prompting to confirm you want to overwrite an existing destination file. /Z Copies networked files in restartable mode. The switch /Y may be preset in the COPYCMD environment variable. This may be overridden with /-Y on the command line. Default is to prompt on overwrites unless COPY command is being executed from within a batch script. To append files, specify a single file for destination, but multiple files for source (using wildcards or file1+file2+file3 format).I'm not sure if the /Z switch will work here.. Do I have to use REMOTE SHELL?Thanks.
suryad Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Popped open a command prompt and am checking it out ASAP. Is it valid for a home network where there are no servers though?
