charlesjoubeily Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 I am new to this forumn so I'm not sure if I am doing it right.Just bought a hard drive in an external casing, connects via USB, computer finds hardware, listed in device manager which states it is working properly, driver ok, but it does not appear in "My Computer"
Maleko Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 i had a similar problem with a comp, what happened with me, is i plugged in a removeable drive, did exactly what u said...after looking, i thought about disabling the media card reader the comp had built in (dunno if urs has one)...after i disabled it, the removable drive worked!
charlesjoubeily Posted September 21, 2005 Author Posted September 21, 2005 I have tried it on 3 different machine but it still won't work..........
Maleko Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 could be a faulty external housing for the drive, have seen it before when i used to work at a computer company, drive is probably totally fine, hard drive case may be faulty.
Jose Sigafus Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 If it shows in Device Manager, just open Disk Management, find the drive, format it and assign a drive letter. Reboot and it will appear in My Computer.
Wicket20519 Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 If it shows in Device Manager, just open Disk Management, find the drive, format it and assign a drive letter. Reboot and it will appear in My Computer.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Unless it's already formatted, then all you have to do is give it a letter, or change the drive letter if there's a conflict with another drive.
