Everything is build on top of Home Basic. Added bits and pieces. So, you wouldn't want to remove any components, say from Ultimate, or you could end up with Basic. So, why not buy Basic at a much lower price?

Do you really need all that business stuff in there? Are you paying for what you don't need, or will never use?

Is it the name you like best. Home Brand against a Brand Name.

What if Home Basic was called Professional Home Power Users Vista Edition.

There's always three markets in retail:

Cheap

Medium

Expensive B)

Everyone will buy one of those three and sometimes change categories.

It does not mean one is better than the other, it just means you can get more profits some of the time.

Microsoft seem intent on starting new categories. And you need to discount Business Editions that come under different rules.

Starter edition will limit you to open a max of 3 applications at once + limit of 800x600 resolutioon + lots of disadvantages...

Yes, but doesnt the type of key determine what type is installed...atleast, thats the impression i was under...

I will use which ever I get for free from Microsoft for testing Vista.

If I dont get a free copy, then too bad, I'll stick with Windows 2000.

I will wait till the first service pack...

Ultimate Edition gets the vote.
