Ive got a motherboard coming in the mail and dual Geforce 6600 GT's. My question is.. If i were to one day buy a XFX GeForce 7800 GT .. Could it replace one of my 6600's, and then I have a 7800 and a 6600 running together.. Is that possible, or was it a stupid question. Thx Thx!!

You must use the same GPU series in order to run SLI.

Of course there has been some enthusiast talk about just what cards will work together and what cards will not. First off you will need cards with two like GPUs. Meaning that SLI will require two 6800 Ultra, or two 6800GT, or two 6600GT video cards.

In other words, they must be the same type and brand. If you got a eVGA 6600GT, the other one must be a eVGA 6600GT. Nvidia is currently working on a fix to use card of the same family regardless of the brand (i.e. a eVGA 6600GT and a PNY 6600GT) but you can't pair up to different cards period.

I'll just get a 7800 GTX and a SLI mobo. I'll buy the other 7800 when I get the money.... And then my friends.. I will be well on my way to a decent pc;)
