Hello,

When I recently installed SP 2 for Windows 2000, it screwed up somehow -- I get an application error message when I try to start many of my programs now: "application failed to initialize (0xc00000005)." Now I can't get my wireless connection to start, which means I can't access the Internet from my computer.

How to fix this?

Thanks for your help, Alex

Try to do a system restore and see if that fixes the problem. If it does then it was just a bad install so you can leave it restored or try reinstalling the Service Pack

If that doesn't work do a system restore to before you installed the service pack and then throw in your Win2k cd and do a repair of the os. That's all I can realy think of off hand that would fix the problem.

System Restore is NOT available for Windows 2000.

What you should probably do is install 2000 SP4 (if it is an option) after a reformat or you can go into the control panel and uninstall SP2, then install sp4.

Hey, and thanks for the advice.

Strangely, SP2 is NOT showing up on my add/remove folders list! I know I got a message indicating it had been installed successfully, but perhaps not? At any rate, some of my programs are opening fine, while others (e.g. FinalDraft, Wireless Internet, and ITuneshelper) don't ("application failed").

That SP2 uninstall file isn't where it's supposed to be, either. Any trick to find it? Or - is there a way to download sp4 on another computer, burn it to a disc, and install it over my flawed sp2? Please let me know. Thanks, Alex

Yeah. Download the full version of microsoft.com, burn it to the CD, and double-click the file on the currupt computer, and your done. You can also download Gurgelmeyer's Unofficial SP5 in the thread titled Windows 2000 Hotstream Project. That has all of the latest updates.
