James123 Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Hi,I have a External Freecom Classic HD 160 GB (7200 RPM) which has just run out of warrenty and today, when I plugged it in it lit up as usual, but instead of fully loading it just started making a scratching noise for 3-4seconds over and over, while it does this the PC freezes (yes, i've tried it on more then one pc).Does anyone know anything I could do with this, people have said opening it and see'ing if a bit was loose would be a good idea, but to be honest I have absolutly no idea how to do that on this as it doesn't appear to have any direct way to open it.any help would be GREATLY appreciated as I had mostly all of my work on this. Many thanks.
ripken204 Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 well its prolly dead then, call the manufacturer right now and tell them! and also if u can ever access the drive then back it up!
James123 Posted August 18, 2005 Author Posted August 18, 2005 I've already called them, and as the warranty has expired they say they're not going to do anything about it.Surely there must be something I'm able to do, it turns on fine but makes a weird noise and doesn't load properly (at all) :'(
boooggy Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 then it means u have to go to the service but u got to pay.....
