MCE and sever 2k3

Would MCE program work under server 2k3?

MCE is an operating system, hun. Sorry. :blushing:

An operating system cannot be installed onto another operating system (not entirely valid but for all intents and purposes...)

There's an "operating system upgrade", AnyMCE, floating about but it is both unstable and despite argued semantics, at least in my opinion entirely illegal. A group of crackers have simply found a way of theoretically integrating parts of MCE into regular vanilla Windows, thusly upgrading any Windows build to use MCE components.

But ask me where to get it and you'll draw a blank... In fact I'd recommend not bothering looking for it at all, it plays hell on your OS. Just stick to legal copies of MCE, you can put down 130 bucks and get a copy from NewEgg like I did. Well worth the cost and to satisify MS's OEM requirement you also get a single-to-dual Molex power splitter absolutely free. :thumbup

Simpla answer is YES u can run MC app on 2k3

i dont know whether it is leager or not

however u need the XP CD2 wiche has the medctrcab and other files

firstly create a hive 'MediaCenter'

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA

then create DWORD 'installed ' and set it to 1

install .NET Framework ver 1.0.3705

find 'medctr.inf' (in CD1 or CD2 os XP MCE)

run the command

"rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection Freestyle 128 medctr.inf"

if it works then a filecopy dialog asks u about the MCE files location

and filecopy process starts.......

check the \windows\medctr.log to verify whether it is installed or not

restart the sytem

riun 'Media Center' from Accessories\Madiacenter\

why would it be illegal? the only problem is that MCE app will only run on MCE os, tired to just install it on 2k3 and did but wont run

What Went wrong ?

try to add the hive in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\WPA

'PIDRange'

then create a STRING key named 'SKURange' ane give value 'EHome'

I tried to install on xp home, all i get is an error ehome will only run on windows MCE

Now it make trouble

bcoz MC will not run on XP Home (i think so !!!)

it require XP Pro (or may 2k3)

plz check it in "iexbeta" forum ,

i think the hint i got was from that forum

Why not just use MediaPortal instead? Http://mediaportal.sourceforge.net . It's every bit as full featured as MCE (in fact, more so, and it's upgraded ALL the time, unlike mCE) and better, it's FREE.

Check it out, I don't think you will be disappointed.

PS: You could alternatively wait for XBox 360, which should give you a lot of that Media Center functionality right out of the box!

Actually, the 360 is just an extender - it is not a replacement for MCE.
