Hey guys,

I've been wanting to build my own VoIP box (or gateway) for a while now, instead of paying for the commercial ones from companies like Linksys and D-Link... Do you guys have any suggestions as to what software I should be using...?

I've read about Asterisk and Asterisk@home, saying that they can be made into VoIP gateways, but it seems that all they are are Linux-based PBX systems... And for VoIP to work, you need to buy one of the commercial gateways from Linksys, D-Link, etc...

Asterisk@home is just Asterisk integrated into CentOS, all on one CD with a web management portal!

Any help would be very appreciated! ;)

i did some searching not too long ago about this same thing. None found.. all are Linux Based. I remember finding one windows based (cant remember the name off hand) but it was commercial software and it cost MUCH more than a linksys or D-link gateway.

If you happen to find one please post. or if anyone else knows of any good ones please let us know.

What I am looking for should be Linux-based, not Windows... ;) Windows obviously won't work well with this! ;)

unfortunately everthing for me was linux and I am not tuned in to that OS as I would like to be yet so I dont have any feed back on anything.. I downloaded a few but couldnt get some drivers to work and just ditched the project

pretty much everything I tried was the Asterisk based but i was unsuccessful on all attempts:(

Its been a while, but here's the final product. The article was written by a friend of mine... I helped him understand how everything should be installed! ;)
