hakeem5454 Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 eveytime i install sp2 on my laptop my wireless connection gets alot of problemsit keeps disconnecting etc. why is this?
rjz Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Must be an incompatable driver. Can you upgrade the driver/firmware on the card? Also in general I have found out that some old laptops do not really work well with sp2.
jcarle Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 It's best if you install Service Pack when it's already slipstreamed into your windows cd. In other words, make yourself a windows cd with SP2 and the hotfixes slipstreamed into it and use that to install your laptop. Then install of your laptops latest drivers and your wireless should work fine.
hakeem5454 Posted July 31, 2005 Author Posted July 31, 2005 my laptop is 3 months old...so its brand new... and it comes with windows media center preinstalled.. but ill try installing sp2 and then updating the wirless card driver.

chilifrei64 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Are you using static or dynamic IP addressing?Have you tried to retype your WEP key? What type of wireless router are you running? In the driver configuration.. is the channel set to auto?In the driver configuration.. is the mode(b/g) set to auto? What mode is your wireless router running in?Are any of the advanced "108mbps" settings enabled?
hakeem5454 Posted August 3, 2005 Author Posted August 3, 2005 um i have no clue can u tell me how to figure all this out?i have a netgear router and i dont think any advanced 108 mbps settings are enabled either
chilifrei64 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Login to your router using the web interface and start fishing through there for the settings. The address to the router will be your default gateway address. To find out your default gateway go to start-> run -> cmdtype ipconfig /allThis will tell you if you are set to autoconfigure (yes or no) and what your default gateway is. Once in the router.. search for the settings i mentioned aboveWhat version of the router are you using and what firmware version is it running. Most Netgears have an update firmware page on them where you can update the firmware.
hakeem5454 Posted August 3, 2005 Author Posted August 3, 2005 do i do all this on my laptop or on my desktop ?
chilifrei64 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 either one.. whichever one you can connect to it with.

chilifrei64 Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Alright. On your computer, make sure you have your wireless network connection as follows"SSID Name" PropertiesAssociation tab: Make sure the SSID is correct.. this means caps and all. Network authentication should be open and wep should be disabled.Authentication Tab: make sure none of these are selected.Wireless network connection propertiesMake sure "Use windows to configure my wireless settings" IS checkedMake sure your ssid is the top oneSelect the advanced button and select "Any available network"Also, make sure your router is handing out IP Addresses.. if it is not then staticly configure one on your computer based on the settings from your router (IE. Router IP 192.168.0.1 SM 255.255.255.0.... Computer 192.168.0.2 SM 255.255.255.0 DG 192.168.0.1
