Takeshi Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 There're two copies of taskman.exe, in WINDOWS and system32 directories.I tried running them from Run, cmd or direct clicking but nothing happens. Taskmgr.exe works normally. No virus found by F-Secure.What do they both do?http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...mb_tol_aubc.asp
Takeshi Posted August 2, 2005 Author Posted August 2, 2005 I've tried it on other XP systems with the same result.Other threads say it's safe to remove.Anyone know what it actually does?
bilemke Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 (edited) taskman.exe should exist under C:\windows and C:\windows\system32However.. Make sure under c:\windows\system32 you also have taskmgr.exe. It is the actual exe that runs and shows you the running processes. If you dont have it.. Runsfc /scannowto kick in System File Check and see if it adds it back for you. rjz Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 1 might be a virus. Check your run areas in safemode using regedit.
midas Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 taskman.exe by default is in both windows and system32 directoriesfor SP2:CRC is 0x5E9721D0MD5 is F4DFD83153E8C9088AE2DB704107060Dand yes, it does absolultely nothing, justs wastes 32KB of HD space
Takeshi Posted August 4, 2005 Author Posted August 4, 2005 I didn't think it was a virus before or after checking MD5:f4dfd83153e8c9088ae2db704107060df4dfd83153e8c9088ae2db704107060dMany thanks to all of you who replied and esp. to midas. The MD5 is a good idea! it does absolultely nothing => that's really what I wanted to know! What do I use to find out the CRC?
