when you get your system back:

where d is the drive letter holding your slip xp cd

ok, give me a moment

1 sector on a Cd is 2048 bytes

My boot.ini is 211 bytes so that's 1 sector

My ntdetect.com is 47564 bytes so that's 24 sectors

ntldr is 250048 bytes so 123 sectors

Select no emulation and use 148 sectors?

That doesn't sound right.

I did this one time with Win2k (which has a different ntldr and ntdetect files).

I also tried to replacing the scsi settings in boot.ini with multi, as you stated before, but that didn't work. scsi is the way to go in this situation.

EDIT: 148 is impossible. The range is 1 - 128.

Thank you, but help would only be if I actually got your system running.

You could, if you had another ntfs system, connect up your drive as a slave, and then copy fresh ntldr and create a new boot.ini file.

I think I need to create the XP floppies, and then burn them to a CD, and then image.

In three tests so far, I can't seem to get my system to boot from the CD

Did you try just creating a regular CD with the files?

I suppose, when I go to reformat in 18 days, I'm going to first delete the ntldr file and try a few CDs.

Well, I'll try to be as short as I can as I re-tell the whole story on how I fixed it.

I started out by creating the XPCDSP2 with slipstreamed SATA drivers. That didn't work as it gave me a message saying that some of my setup files were corrupt :blink (I redid this once again and got the same message) so I gave up on that part. I thought that it was all lost and that I would be forced to format with my UAXPCD and loose all my info on my SATA HDD, but then I remembered that I had a IDE HDD inside my computer for backups which I could use for temporary Windows installation!. So, I installed Windows on it and booted into Windows, installed the SATA drivers and I was back on track. I did a backup of all stuff and formatted the HDD with my almost finished UACD.

That's all folks. It was a hell of a fight, but I finally made it. It's funny, how you can wake up one day and suddenly, your computer refuses to boot. I guess that it has tought me a lesson, always backup all your work!
