Janto Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 hi , i am Just wondering if there is any tool that can delete files , that they can`t be recovered , not that i am going to do nauthy stuff (lol) but i notice that my space is lowand i scanned with a prog called (active UNDELETE) and it finds files 2 gb :S that are not on my hd
MHz Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 You have run Active Delete, and you think you can recover space by cleansing the deleted contents. Only way to get more drive space, is to backup and delete some more, or buy another HDD.Or is security your issue? If so, just google. Some good freeware out there, that does a permanent deletion.
what3v3r Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 (edited) "tuneup utilities 2004" can do that.they add the "tuneup shredder" to the right click menu of every file, which physically deletes it.http://www.tune-up.com/ Edited July 16, 2005 by what3v3r
Janto Posted July 16, 2005 Author Posted July 16, 2005 i know but the files are still on the drive , if i scan with active undelete
dman Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 (edited) Eraser will overwrite and permanantly delete files.EDIT: this will not get you any more free space. when a file is deleted the space is marked as free, even though the file is still on the disk. eraser will just make it unrecoverable. what3v3r Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 i know but the files are still on the drive , if i scan with active undelete<{POST_SNAPBACK}>even after using the "tuneup shredder"?i have to admit i never tried it but from what ive read, this software should overwrite the files deleted that way. you shouldnt be able to recover them.
Jeremy Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 Use Eraser and select 35 levels of overwrite, that will do the trick.
dman Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 !!EXTRA DELETED!! virtual folder is created by active unerase for files and file fragments that it has located, but cannot locate the parent folder, so this is normal. Recycler will always have a folder because windows will recreate it even if you delete it offline.
