WMV/ASF Codec problem

Ok. This is starting to p*** me off. It used to work fine, but ever since I reformatted I can't get WMVs to play in Media Player Classic or PowerDVD half the time. They just try to open the video and freeze. Try a couple times, and they end up working. I don't get it. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm using XP Pro SP1 with PowerDVD6, Media Player 9, and MPC 6.4.8.2(?). I've also tried MPC 6.4.8.4 and had no luck. This used to work, but ever since I reformatted I've been having problems. I've actually redone everything twice since the last time I had working WMV playback in players besides WMP.

I always preferred WMP 8, but the newer PowerDVD actually requires WMP9 to install. That alone really p***ed me off.
