Marthax
Hi everyone!I've removed all visual effects from my Win Xp copy using nLite, meaning that I disabled all visual effects that can be activated in My computer -> advanced -> performance -> settings. Now, when I try activating ClearType using my registry tweak file during RunOnceEx, it doesn't result in anything at all. It's not applied. Why? If I go in manually, I can activate it, but if I try using the registry tweak it doesn't work. This is what I use:;Enable ClearType for ALL Users[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]"FontSmoothingType"=dword:00000002Does anyone know how to fix this?Cheers,Marthax
RyanVM
HKCU entries have to be applied during the T12 (svcpack.inf, cmdlines.txt) stage for them to work properly. RunOnceEx is too late. Edited July 3, 2005 by RyanVM
sanjaykumar
Does the windows powertoys package component Cleartype tuning does the same job as the above registry tweak? conversely, If i use this registry tweak, should I still use the cleartype tuning powertoy? Marthax
The tuning program should be used if you want to tune the setting of cleartype. If the default setting is good enough, then use this reg tweak. Thanks a lot RyanVM . I didn't know that.
Marthax
one more thing guys. What about the HKLM? Can I apply these kind of registry tweaks at any time during the UA Win Setup?EDIT: And if I want to execute some reg tweaks from cmdlines, will this be correct?"regedit /s "registrytweaks12.reg"" Edited July 4, 2005 by Marthax
RyanVM
HKLM can be added at any time (but I just add all my tweaks at once). If I were you, I'd call a batch file from cmdlines.txt which then runs regedit. The scope of commands which can be run from cmdlines.txt itself is fairly limited. Batch files will give you much more flexibility. Marthax
I created a batch file which would execute my reg tweak file from cmdlines and some tweaks still don't work, including Cleartype. I also noticed that my Numlock tweak doesn't work. What should I do?
RyanVM
Let's start with the basics, are you certain the batch file is actually executing? cmdlines.txt syntax looks like this:[COMMANDS]".\update.cmd"In this example, update.cmd is sitting directly in the $OEM$ folder along with cmdlines.txt (not in any subfolder of it).EDIT: Here's a screenshot to give you a better idea of what I'm talking about. Marthax
I know how to use the cmdlines and yes, that's exactly how I have it managed. If this would be the problem then I don't think that any registry tweak would have been executed, but this is not the case as some tweaks get executed, but not all. Why? Well, that's the question I'm trying to answer myself.EDIT: I managed to fix it by replacing the I386 folder and do all the nLiting all again, but this time more carefully. I found out that some of the tweaks I did were the cause of my problem (I disabled all the Visual Effects) so I simply skipped the whole tweaks part as I don't wanna go through all that testing simply to get some minor tweaks done.
