lansing Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 all my startup programs fail to run at windows start, when i run msconfig, the startup tab only shows the one that i disable before, all the one that were set to run are missing. I dont know what is wrong.I think this is cause by my improper shutdown earlier.
Gowcra Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 Okay can you let us know a little more about this problem, because im not fully understanding what is happening here. Provide as much detail as possible and I will probally be able to assist you.
lansing Posted July 3, 2005 Author Posted July 3, 2005 I'm using Windows XP sp2, there are several services and programs are set the run at system start, like the antivirus and the hotkey for my keyboard, but after the incident, all these programs and services did not run at system start, the only icons i see at the bottom right now are the volume icon and connection icon.i don't know what has happened to my computer before.
Gouki Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 (edited) On Run type regedit and go here:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > MICROSOFT > WINDOWS > CURRENTVERSIONInside these folders:1 - Run2 - RunOnce3 - RunOnceEx4 - RunServices Look for the programs u need. If they arent there ... Just add them to Run! Cya! Edited July 3, 2005 by Gouki

lansing Posted July 6, 2005 Author Posted July 6, 2005 do i need to delete this "Run-" folder after i copy the file?
lansing Posted July 6, 2005 Author Posted July 6, 2005 never mind my previous post, i have fixed the problem, thanks Gouki.one more question, how can i remove those disabled startup service in msconfig's startup tab?
Gouki Posted July 7, 2005 Posted July 7, 2005 The entries have to be in one of the 3 folders I mentioned. Just look for them there.Didn't know about that Run- folder ... I think its safe to delete tho.
ChunkDog Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Try not to click "Disable All" on the startup tab in "msconfig" next time lol
DonDamm Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 The Run- folder is just the place msconfig puts the keys so they can be later restored. It is a clever trick which I use often when disabling keys that I might want to restore later. That way they don't get really deleted just made non-functional.
