techniquefreak Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 This is just ridculous, some guy trying to sell some tools you can find free on the .net - what do you guys think ?http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...7166790058&rd=1Probably not illegal but still, ridiculous - not ?
JoeMSFN Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 @techniquefreak: Here's the most interesting snippit from the page.Update And Reactivate Your XP Home or XP Pro Windows XP Activation wizard and Code changer This will compute and Change the Current Key Code to a useable key For XP Home / XP Pro if you are getting a Error Message and cannot download sp1a - Sp2 updates or Have a activation time limit after Reinstalling XP Home or XP Pro this will Fix the XP Errors and get you running !Hmmm.... perhaps if you have one of the two banned keycodes, now you can upgrade to SP2!...Sounds like it's a keygen "This will compute and Change...to a useable...". Well at least it checks for a valid key... how nice of him...Well while not strictly illegal, (If you worked at one of those companies that got their VLK banned and you've irritated your IT department so much they won't upgrade for you I spoz it's legit ) it does sound targeted to those casual (read lazy) ethically challenged folk reguarding software purchases. (wheew... what a long way to avoid the P word )And to cover your second point, I'm sure this can be found on the net for free.Oh hey, look... a 1 day listing with 0 bids and < 3 hours to go! Guess everyone is finding it for free..
Martin Zugec Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 That utility is available for long time, it is not keygen, it will just replace your current key with the new (but you must provide this new key). AFAIR Microsoft had similar utility for people who switched from pirated OS to legal
techniquefreak Posted July 1, 2005 Author Posted July 1, 2005 Yeah - but someone trying to sell it that's just too stupid ...
Martin Zugec Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 I am quite surprised no one tried to sell unattended cd...
Fredledingue Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 I'm pretty sure it's illegal unless he pay royalties to M$ or whoever wrote this stuff. It's always stipulated in the user agreement that the software is free to use but you can't sell it.
