I'm working on a friends 98SE installation, and I've managed to clean up all the freaking problems except for this one. Mprexe caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 0167:bff7a4b2.

Nothing I try can get rid of this. I've attempted all the suggestions from a google search such as taking everything out of startup via msconfig, and re-installing IE, but this problem persists. Suggestions besides reformat are very welcomed!

If u have already tried the solutions suggested by MS:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=178084

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=234647

I would like to suggest to install the newer file from Windows ME setup CD [if u have it]:

EXTRACT/Y D:\WIN9X\WIN_17.CAB /L C:\TEMP MPREXE.EXE

where D must be replaced if your CD/DVD drive letter is different.

This file has to be replaced from native MS-DOS mode [shift + F5 from Startup Menu]:

MPREXE.EXE goes in %windir%\SYSTEM .

Hope this helps.

There's a patch for this problem but it only resolves the Mprexe page fault problem only if your Win98 FE or Win95 computer is connected to a Novell network.

See MS kb article 192249 for the patch:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=192249

this problem doesn't affect Win98 SE & WinME users.

If the patch doesn't fix the problem then look at MS kb article 178084 for other solutions.
