Heartofgold
I was having problems with my computer so I decided to use the recovery mode on my HP pavilion a527x computer with XP home edition. Everything went great, I did the one without reformatting the harddrive and losing everything. Since then if I don't do anything on the internet for awhile, when I click on some link to access the internet I can't get on and then I have to reboot the computer to get on the internet again. It sucks

arvindK
Try one of the keep alive utilities. Here's a trialware that I'd tried out sometime back 42 Always-Connected Plug This app keeps pinging a predefined site at regular intervals.Hope it's of some help. Zxian
Do you have a home network (i.e. a router)? When you loose connectivity, can you ping your own computer? Open a command window and type in ping localhostYou should get 4 successful pings all 1ms or less. Once this is done, can you ping elsewhere?Does the connection come on again if you disable the connection and then re-enable it?If it's an ethernet, make sure that Windows isn't turning it off to "save power". Under Device Manager, go to your ethernet card's properties. Under the Power Management tab, uncheck the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". See if that helps.
