Hi !

I really looked everywhere but cannot find a solution for this. There are some Microsoft msi packages that refuse to install during unattended setup. Two of those are:

the Fotostory for Windows 3 tool and

the Outlook Personal Folder Backup tool.

Those are msi packages that WILL install fine while in Windows using the usual "/quiet /passive /norestart" or "/QN, /QB" switches, however they ALWAYS fail to install from runonceex. No error message, the tool just does not get installed.

I have noticed while trying to install the package from Windows, that the installer tries to contact Microsoft during installation (see pic). That is the only common thing between the two tools and it does not happen with other msi packages from Microsoft.

Now there is no internet access available during runonceex, could this be the reason why those tools will not install from there successfully ?

Is there a solution to that ? Any switch to install the package even without internet access ?

Thanks for your help !

I edited the PhotoStory msi using AdminStudio and then made a 7z switchless silent installer. One curious thing though is that it will not install properly from svcpack.inf, I have to install it from cmdlines.txt. The other oddball that exhibits this behavior is the Windows Journal Viewer. Everthing else goes from svcpack.inf without any difficulties.

Hi guys,

thanks for your help so far. I have downloaded this orca program but I have no idea what to change amongst those many options in those rows and tables.

But ...

I was wrong on the reason for the installation failure during runonceex.

I remembered to add the /le <pathtologfile> or /log switches to the silent install of those msi´s and so I quickly found out that the reason for the failing fotostory installation was not the missing internet access but a missing Windows Media Player 10 installation. I then installed WMP10 before fotostory and installation went fine that way.

The reason for the failing Outlook personal folder backup tool installation is more complex though.

The log does not show any error. I then found out that the msi seemingly only installs the tool for the account it is running in eg. the Administrator account in my case.

So if I log in as the Administrator after installation, the tool is properly installed. However, for all other users it is not.

Is there a way to install the tool for all users ?? Can I do this with orca or another switch ? If I need orca for that, which cell would I have to change ? I found a cell called property which lists a few variables, amongst them a property named "ApplicationUsers" but that is already set to the value of "AllUsers" ...

Thanks for your help !
