May 25, 200521 yr Hi.Been reading the excellent manual "The definitive how to guide" all about slipstreaming and creating an unattended CD (win 2000, in my case). It says for getting all the critical update hotfixes, to set up a 'base install' - with no updates, and use the Windows Update feature etc. Do I create a virtual machine partition and install a clean install of win2k here and use this method to collect all the critical updates numbers to get the files together?ThanksRailman5
May 25, 200521 yr @Railman5You obviously havent read anything http://unattended.msfn.org/global/finish.htmThis is in the beginners section of the guide. And this "sticky" is right above your post!http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=31886
May 25, 200521 yr Author Thank you for your help!I am relatively new to this side of things and thought it best to check with the 'experts' before I cock it all up!Your last link is to all the hot fixes in one place is it?So I can just download the hot fixes from there?well that saves a lot of work then!Still, was my original question about the VM a correct assumption?perhaps us newbees should have special markers!!Newbee on the loose.
May 25, 200521 yr If your using Win2000, your gonna have to slipstream SP4 into it first and then add all POST SP4 hotfixes into that before burning image.Yes VM is for testing but I personally stay well clear of all those testing apps and use a dedicated machine for testing. (WinXP in my case too, not 2000 but its pretty much similar.)There is a Win2000 forum see all forums here http://www.msfn.org/board/
