ok so i just bought a new flash drive and placed my windows install into it. my mobo supports booting from it, but when i boot it, it says that my boot.ini is invalid. the problem is the multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1) part. i know wat they are for hard drives, but wat about flash drives? tia.

When you boot from USB "Legacy" support, the connected device becomes first drive, so you should have

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)

Just in case nothing prohibits to add to your boot.ini some lines like:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Drive0 Partition 1"

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Drive0 Partition 1"

.....

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(n)\WINNT="Drive0 Partition n"

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINNT="Drive1 Partition 1"

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(2)\WINNT="Drive1 Partition 2"

.....

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(n)\WINNT="Drive0 Partition n"

But I frankly doubt that a full install will boot from it (error 0x07B) see these threads:
