What's the best software that now works in combination with DV Cameras, SP2 & Firewire & External Drives?

DV Cameras,
The ones that come with your camera CD if any.

The goals are:

-get some video data files transfered from your camera to the computer.

-get an idea of what you want to do with these video: create standard DVD, compress to DivX, publish to the internet, create PowerPoint demo, save snapshots, etc

-get a software that can read (depends on the format, container and codecs), edit it and eventualy convert it to the appropriate format

SP2 & Firewire & External Drives?

It's not related to video editing/rendering.

But I will certainly not recommand Adobe Premiere.
