Router Connection Problem...

I wanted to upgrade my router from wired to wireless. I purchased a Linksys wrt54g router and I couldnt get it to work wirelessly with my laptop pc but it worked hardwired to my desktop pc and laptop. I returned the Linksys and purchased a DLink DI-524 router. I tried to install the router to my desktop pc and it will not work wired desktop pc but it will work wired to the laptop. Also before there were any changes involving setting up a wireless network i was using a Dlink DI-604 router which I used fine and was able to connect to the internet.

I cannot use my original router (DLINK DI-604) and I have tried removing my ethernet card from the Device Manager and I have also deleted what connections I could from Network Connections to start fresh and to no avail. I am able to connect to the internet via a straight connection to my dsl modem with no router on my desktop pc.

At the moment I am not concerned about wireless however I want to get my DLINK DI-604 working again as it was before.

Try enabling SSID broadcasts for the setup (you can disable again after discovery and connections are established), delete your WAP settings from your desktop and laptop and re-add them. Also disable any encryption until your connections are solid, then you can re-enable them.

Hope this helps. It has helped me in the past. I too, used Linksys and D-Link routers.

As for your wired connection not working try replacing the cable or connectors. May seem basic but sometimes the RJ-45 connectors go bad or the cable breaks if it is stretched or bent too much.

No offense but it sounds like you are setting up the router incorrectly. I had a problem with my DI-524 when I first got it and would have sworn that it was faulty. It turns out that I was suppose to clone the MAC address of the modem. Once I did that everything worked like it should. When all else fails read the instructions, follow them to the letter do not assume you already know how to do it.
