tcb263 Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 if i was to add a second hdd w/o using a raid configuration would i see a difference in speed? the reason i ask this is because right now i have an 80gig hdd which ive used 3/4 of and ive noticed that it takes much longer to search for and open files. i was thinking i could get an extra 40 gig to install my os on and use the other for all my games, movies, music, etc. any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
ripken204 Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 well kinda yes, only b/c the hard drives write on their disks from the outside to the inside and it reads the outside faster than the inside. so in the hdd that u have now, the files that are in the inner part of the disk will read slower than if they were on the outer part of the disk. i would go for the extra drive tho, and partition it and have the OS in a 5-10 gb partition on the outermost part of the disk so that ur comp will boot fast.http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=40223
puntoMX Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 When you buy a second one let Windows put his Swap-file on the second drive, if you keep it in one partition it will be faster because of bigger blocks. Make it also a fixed Swap-file, then start moving games and multimedia stuff like music, movies etc.You will notice some performance boost .
rendrag Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 or you could just defrag your original hard drive and see a speed increase just by doing that
ripken204 Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 if ur in this forum and dont defrag then theres gota be sumtin wrong with u
puntoMX Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 I don´t defrag, now I know that there is some thing wrong with me B)
