utln Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 I threw together a quick and sloppy command file to download and compress all the files needed to use the v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com without having to accept the updated activex controls or download any other updates. Hopefully this makes sense. The RedBull is wearing off...1. If EXTRACT.EXE isn't installed on your computer you'll need to download, install and copy extract.exe to one of your path directories or to the same directory as XPCREATE. You can get extract.exe from here.2. Download the attached file (wucabs.cmd) and place it in the same directory as XPCREATE.3. Run wucabs.cmd. wucabs.cmd uses download.exe to grab the cab files for you.4. Open the wucabs folder and you'll find a folder called Add_To_I386. Copy the files from that folder and place them in FILESCD/I386. Do not copy the folder itself. That's it. There's no need to add anything to dosnet.inf. Most of these links are language and platform specific. You'll need to adust the download links if you're not using the English version of Windows or if you're running XP64.wucabs.cmd
homiebrah Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 RyanVM has his UpdatePack which does the same thing, as well as incorporating several hotfixes and additional files into the i386 directory.UpdatePack

You'll need to adust the download links if you're not using the English version of WindowsThanks a lot, but v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/V5Controls/fr/x86/client/wuweb_site.cab does not seem to exist Should I take the English one?Furthermore, does eng mean English en wuaueng.cab and wuaueng1.cab?
tarquel Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Someone has mentioned this before (atho maybe it was in a different section of the msfn forum)I will *try* and find the links later and in xpcreate's case, you would put the updated files in:FILESCD/i386so that it will replace the old filesYes, the same location as your winnt.sif file in case anyone asks heheRegards,N.

Figures it wouldn't be that easy... I was able to find the correct cabs and their locations by installing a new copy of XP on my test machine and installing the updates from the V5 site. Once the updates are downloaded they're stored in your Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files along with the address of where they came from. Give that a shot.

GreenMachine Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Thanks, utln.mdes: please post the fr URLs. Also, I do believe the eng you mention refers to ENGINE, and not ENGLISH. Of course, that is just my guess!
