gamehead200 Posted November 8, 2002 Posted November 8, 2002 K, I have a Toshiba Satellite lying around in my room which is about 2-3 years old. It was designed for Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 2000 Professional. Would it work if I installed XP?
FthrJACK Posted November 8, 2002 Posted November 8, 2002 ****!! did it crash through your roof?how bigs the hard disc?
gamehead200 Posted November 8, 2002 Author Posted November 8, 2002 I thought you guys would be more serious than that...The HD is 6GB and a bit....I'm sure it'll be less when II format!
FthrJACK Posted November 8, 2002 Posted November 8, 2002 what are its specs gamehead, sorry i couldnt resist the gag.how much ram, cpu speed? and hard disc size, then i can give you and idea how it will run xp. why not give a linux distro a go on it, if you have a pc that has XP already, use the toshiba for experimenting...
gamehead200 Posted November 8, 2002 Author Posted November 8, 2002 K, I don't wanna use Linux (even though I have the CDs) cuz the laptop has a DVD player and I dunno if it would work with Linux...Here are it's specs...Windows 98 SE6 GB Hard Drive192 MB RAMP3 @ (about) 600 MHzToshiba DVD-ROM SD-C2402S3 Inc. Savage/IX w/MV Video CardToshiba Internal V.90 ModemToshiba ToPIC100 CardBus Controller (PCMCIA Socket)Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host ControllerMaestro Wave/WaveTable Synthesis DevicesBTW, I also have a 10/100 Integrated PC Card for my network, made by Linksys (Etherfast 10/100 Integrated PC Card)This laptop is seriously screwed up and I would like to install XP to get rid of all of it. Can I install it without any problems? One more thing, on the label on my laptop, it says "Designed for Microsoft Windows 2000 Pro. , Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 98".
XPerties Posted November 8, 2002 Posted November 8, 2002 yep, you cant install XP on it. No problems.
Aaron Posted November 8, 2002 Posted November 8, 2002 Looking at your specs, its more than enough to run XP on it
gamehead200 Posted November 8, 2002 Author Posted November 8, 2002 OK, all I will need to install (cuz I ran the compatibility wizard) is my Power Saver (how can i...) and my USB Disk Controller (might need additional software?). Thanx guys! I'll get right to it...*Gamehead200 zooms off to his laptop*!
gamehead200 Posted November 8, 2002 Author Posted November 8, 2002 Oh, one more thing, does XP adjust its the size of my laptop screen or do I have to do it (with 98, it was already configured). I don't mean the resolution, I mean like stretching the image, slanting it, u no, like on a regular monitor?
Drewdatrip Posted November 8, 2002 Posted November 8, 2002 YEa Gamehead it should automatically size up the moniter....once in windows you can modify the resolution and all that stuff=Drew
gamehead200 Posted November 8, 2002 Author Posted November 8, 2002 Thanx Drew! One more thing, before I replied to this post, I posted another topic and right when I was about to reply to this topic, I got a flood control warning...Why does it think I'm flooding when I'm not even replying in the same topic?
gamehead200 Posted November 8, 2002 Author Posted November 8, 2002 Great! Everything works fine, even my USB ! Now all I need is an DVD encoder....BTW, when I change my resolution from 800x600 to the next one, the laptop screen can't fit the whole screen...Is there a way to fix this??
FthrJACK Posted November 8, 2002 Posted November 8, 2002 i would maybe add some ram, but it will be fine unless you do anything "heafty" with it, eg play games or run a lot of CPU intensive apps a lot.
gamehead200 Posted November 8, 2002 Author Posted November 8, 2002 No, this will be my slideshow and DVD viewing computer !
Drewdatrip Posted November 9, 2002 Posted November 9, 2002 Thanx Drew! One more thing, before I replied to this post, I posted another topic and right when I was about to reply to this topic, I got a flood control warning...Why does it think I'm flooding when I'm not even replying in the same topic?Well for double posting safty we have a flood control interval set to about 30 seconds..so if you try to post more then once in 30 secs, it will give you that error message....thats probly what happened=Drew
