Outlook Express Backup

Recommended Posts

Ok, I searched and found lots of different answers to this question, but none seem to work:

How do I backup my Outlook Express settings (INCLUDING accounts, preferences/options, rules), and have them EASILY imported on a newly-formatted-WinXP-machine?

The only post that seemed possible was idle.newbie's (here), since it accounts for the Identities string changing with each installation.

But I need more info on this:

what EXACTLY do I need to backup?

and in what file?

and how do I run it on a new machine?

do ANY changes have ot be made to that code?

you can change the location of E-Mail Files :

1. run Outlook Express
2. Go to Tools / Options
3. Click on the Maintenance tab
4. Click on the Store Folder button
5. This will show the current directory that is being used
6. Click on the  Change button
7. Browse to the new drive and directory

1. your e-mail accounts (bala@bala.com Name smtp pop3 ) under

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Account Manager

The AssociatedID in

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Account Manager\Accounts]
"AssociatedID"=hex:ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff

corresponding to Default User ID in

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities]
"Default User ID"="{11111111-1111-1111-1111-111111111111}"

so if you delete the new [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities] and Export the old one + [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Account Manager] and create a new folder %appdata%\Identities\{11111111-1111-1111-1111-111111111111}, then you'll get your accounts back

2. you can Import&Export the mail account to file (i prefer this method)

Checkout Inachis Software's e-Backup 1.4x. It will backup multiple OE identities, the Windows Address Book, IE Favorites, and custom directories.

There is a free version out there you should be able to find.
