lfotto Posted October 30, 2002 Posted October 30, 2002 Has anyone had any network problems after returning from hibernation. My PC using Roadrunner as its Internet Provider will not reconnect if it has been shut down by hibernation. The only way to get back the connection is restart. Any ideas, because hibernate is useless if I have to restart anyway for my network to work. Thanks for any advice.
Drewdatrip Posted October 30, 2002 Posted October 30, 2002 I never really got why people used Hibernation..its only a good idea with a notebook, to save batt power..but besides that i see no reason to use it....=Drew
lfotto Posted October 30, 2002 Author Posted October 30, 2002 The reason I use it is because a old 500 Mhz k6-2, coming out of hibernate is a lot faster than a complete bootup. IMHO
HashDump Posted October 30, 2002 Posted October 30, 2002 Hibernate and Bootup serve different purposes. In hibernate all programs running are still loaded in memory, and on a Win9x box, would be more suceptible to corruption. I guess what I'm trying to find out is what exactly you're trying to accomplish. Would'nt turning off your monitor and hard drives after a period of time achieve your desired result?
zivan56 Posted October 31, 2002 Posted October 31, 2002 HashDump I think you mean Stand By, since Hibernate saves everthing into a file on the disk and shuts the computer off completely. Then when the computer is restarted, it loads everthing into the memory from the file.
