pcaddict Posted January 19, 2005 Posted January 19, 2005 I have an old proliant 1600 with 300mb ram and dual p2 450's. I was told by a network admin that it is not possible to use dual p2's in server 2003 because of a flaw in the cpu. If this is true, is there any way to bypass this? Thanks in advance.
pcaddict Posted January 19, 2005 Author Posted January 19, 2005 I'm pretty positive w 2k3 is not utilizing both cpu's. If both were used, wouldnt there be 2 cpu graphs in the performance tab in task manager?

pcaddict Posted January 19, 2005 Author Posted January 19, 2005 ok, so since there is only one graph, only one cpu is being used. I would imagine there is a reg hack or something that can enable the 2nd cpu....
valter Posted January 19, 2005 Posted January 19, 2005 Could be, but it could be also type of your license ... even though I think that the basic OEM license supports up to 4 cpus
pcaddict Posted January 19, 2005 Author Posted January 19, 2005 You could be right but from what I was told, microsoft disabled support because there is a flaw built in to the chip. And your point about the license type, I thought of that too, but dunno if it means anything
ZuluDC Posted January 19, 2005 Posted January 19, 2005 Isn't there by booting from Setup-CD (when the blue screen comes up) by pressing F5 an option for installing Multi-CPU support?
pcaddict Posted January 19, 2005 Author Posted January 19, 2005 good question...i'll have to check it out. hopefully thats it
pcaddict Posted January 19, 2005 Author Posted January 19, 2005 Here is the answer to my question. If the processor is an x86 Family 6 Model 1 or Model 3 windows server 2003 will only use one cpu. I have a x86 Family 6 Model 5. I'm guessing this means I can use both cpu's? For more information go to: MS Support DBThanks to those that helped.
Marsden Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 You have to change the HAL to make it work if you can. It may of may not work. If it does not work you will have to reinstall and accept the single CPU HAL.Basically your hardware is just too old to run a multi CPU HAL. Besides it will run dog slow...
