Jeremy Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 Hi, I've been experimenting with LiteStep themes lately but everytime I try to use one, a module won't load but the GUI looks ok. The ones with desktop icons won't allow me to actually move the icons and customizing one of them lacks user-friendliness and this is irritating. Does anyone have any good recommendations for shells? I'm the minimalistic type guy. I'd like to have something similar to how XP looks (System Tray, QuickLaunch, Task Bar, Desktop Icons). Any replies would be great. Thanks,Jeremy
prathapml Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 See Aston, see Talisman Desktop. Both are good.
atomizer Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 i've been toying on and off with bbLean, a fork of bb4Win, which i think is a port of BlackBox for Linux like you Jeremy, i'm looking for a new replacement shell that is fast, stable and efficient, but that also is, or can be made to be similar to the classic interface (start menu, desktop icons, etc.). i think you can do all of this with bbLean and a few plugins (bbIcon, bbSlit), but i'm having a little trouble figuring it all out. Check it out for yourself though. Very configurable and tweakable.
Jeremy Posted July 3, 2005 Author Posted July 3, 2005 I'll take a look at it, but I first rejected Aston due to laziness towards adaptation. But eventually, I became very used to it. It takes up about 4-5 MBs of RAM whereas explorer; anywhere's from 13-30 with much less customization and functionality and stability. I'm very happy with Aston Shell but as I said, sometime I'll give BBlean a shot.
