WattoDaToydarian
Hey gys, I'm trying to get the windows update v5 software to install from the "start.cmd" file so when you goto windows update, it dos'nt have to install any thing to see the avaiable updates. I'v tried copying the "WebSetup" folder from "C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution" (which i believe is the V5 software cus when it downloads and installs, that folder appears) and have "wuauclt.exe" (which seems to have the most activity) run from "start.cmd", but when I goto windows update, it jus waits for a while and then gives me an error and i'v tried restarting. Plz help me out gys! Thanks.

WattoDaToydarian
I dont have that folder, i think that was for V4. V5 is all about the "C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution" folder
RyanVM
There's a thread on here where we discussed which files to download and integrate into the CD in order to be up to date. However, I can't find it for the life of me.However, my update pack has the newest WU5 files included in it. If you wanted, you could always just download that and grab the relevant files. WattoDaToydarian
Thanks Ryan but I dont want SP2, I want my cd to be only SP1 . Could you setup a stand alone V5 installer for me or tell me how to get it to work from your full update pack cab file?

RyanVM
Those are in i386?http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=28527That's the thread I was looking for earlier.EDIT: You really need to stop jumping to conclusions. I'm asking if files are on your CD by default, not because you copied them there on your own.
WattoDaToydarian
Those are in i386?No, i just copied the folder to $OEM$\$1.http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=28527That's the thread I was looking for earlier.Thats very helpfull, but they dont say what cab file to replace in I386. Can winrar compress to cab?EDIT: You really need to stop jumping to conclusions. I'm asking if files are on your CD by default, not because you copied them there on your own.I'm sorry, I thought i explaned that clear enouf on the first post. RyanVM
OK, so those files aren't in i386 then? (Maybe a reason for you to switch to SP2 then )No, WinRAR can't make cab files. Powerarchiver can. To properly integrate it, you'll probably have to run the INFs from the cab files to register all the DLLs.
WattoDaToydarian
OK, so those files aren't in i386 then? (Maybe a reason for you to switch to SP2 then tongue.gif)I put them in $OEM$\$1\install\WebSetup for start.cmd to run. I'll never switch to SP2, it allways gives stupid popup warnings when you run programs and it changed too many menus for no reason. No, WinRAR can't make cab files. Powerarchiver can. To properly integrate it, you'll probably have to run the INFs from the cab files to register all the DLLs.So, instead of replacing whatever file has V4 i should just put...rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 128 %SYSTEMDRIVE%\install\WebSetup\wusetup.inf...in the start.cmd? RyanVM
You can try it, but you still haven't directly answered my question. Are those files in i386 or not?
WattoDaToydarian
NO THERE NOT. There in $OEM$\$1\install\WebSetup
RyanVM
they're*OK, well unfortunately that means you can't just overwrite the files in i386 like you can for an SP2 CD.There's numerous INF files which come with it, and I've got a feeling you're going to have to run them all to properly install it. WattoDaToydarian
OOPS! I misunderstood. Thoes files are actully in I386 but I did'nt put them there (which is what i thought you ment). So, acording to this post in the thread you talked about...If you take the following 13 files from the cabs downloaded from the image above, compress them and put the files in your i386 folder (replacing the old ones), Windows Update v5 works as if everything was installed.cdm.dlliuengine.dllwuapi.dllwuau.admwuauclt.exewuauclt1.exewuaucpl.cplwuaueng.dllwuaueng1.dllwuauhelp.chmwucltui.dllwups.dllwuweb.dll..all i do is copy thoes files from the "WebSetup" folder to the I386 folder replacing the ones in there already and it will install with V5?
