mattofak Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 what dns are you using, msdns? or one provided by your isp
bullet Posted January 7, 2005 Author Posted January 7, 2005 If it were a DNS server problem then the other machine would be having problems too.
mattofak Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 hmm, thats interesting, since its not a gateway problem, not an obvious dns problem, not a proxy problem, not a network architechture problem, not an obvious settings problem...so, you can contact your dns, does it resolve names for you?also, have you tried accessing the wan with a different program/protocol such as firefox and ftp?
bullet Posted January 7, 2005 Author Posted January 7, 2005 DNS does not work at all on this machine but it does on other machines. I tried nslookup and it did not work. I will try ftp and see if that will work
mattofak Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 hmm, what results do you get when you ping your dns?also, is your computer updated with all msofts most recent updates?also, could you do a tracert on www.google.com and supply us with the results? Please do it with both the IP: 66.102.11.99 and www.google.com
bullet Posted January 7, 2005 Author Posted January 7, 2005 I can ping the DNS Server. I'm sure that the computer does NOT have the most current updates. It does have SP1 but not SP2.Note: When I ping I get a two funny asci characters. One is like the upper circle of the number 8 and the second looks like a "y" with two dots side by side over it
mattofak Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 kk, we will need to see the actuall output, copy your command window into a text file and then post it here...also, put the output of tracert in the text file...
bullet Posted January 7, 2005 Author Posted January 7, 2005 I figured it out. It was WinSock. I poked around in Microsoft's KB and found thisHow to determine and recover from Winsock2 corruptionOnce I went through the resolution everything worked fine.I appreciate all the help you guys were willing to give me especially mattofak. Thanks again. I hope someone else can get something from this forum
