Hi guys

just taken the plunge and installed Windows XP Pro onto my laptop, i have a couple of things which i need sorted, having using windows millenium since i bought the laptop and now moving to XP i have noticed two things, i do not have a battery meter, the laptop will not switch itself off

* with windows 98 and me i always had a battery meter, it was really handy for judging how much time i had left, im would like someone to reccomend a good battery meter to download and use

* with windows 98 and me when i went to shutdown, the laptop always shut itself down, now with xp it just comes up, it is now safe to turn of your computer like it would with an old AT system

The laptop is a failry modern P3 700, 256 Ram, 12GB HD, so i dont see any reason why it shouldnt work,

You can have a Power Meter for your batteries - Go into CONTROL PANEL

PERFORMANCE & MAINTENANCE OPTIONS

POWER OPTIONS

THEN UNDER THE ADVANCED TAB-->

Check the 'show icon on Taskbar box

As for shutting down - make sure your BIOS is set to turn off - and not to suspend, sleep, hibernate or whatever your manufacturer calls it.

For the shutting down issue try doing this.

Goto Control panel>Power Options>APM tab and then tick the one and only box there, to enable APM
