LS_Dragons Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Just finished setting up my new system - P4 2.4GHz - and decided not to retire my previous system yet. Too much 'stuff' on it I don't feel like transferring yet. So made a quick trip to Fry's and bought a Linksys 2 system KVM switch - lets me use 1 monitor, keyboard, and mouse for 2 systems. These tings are GREAT. Touch a button on the front and BANG! Using old system.... touch button again and BANG! using new system. Since everything is networked - may not retire old system at all. Highly recommended!!!!LS_Dragons
Drewdatrip Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Too bad about the price factor....id love one =Drew
zivan56 Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 I use one of those when maintaining 4 servers in a very small server room (cant fit a chair into it, makes me claustrophobic), its really good if don’t need to use all your comps at the same time, or if they are close together.
LS_Dragons Posted October 23, 2002 Author Posted October 23, 2002 Drew - I had thought they were pretty costly also, but the prices have come down quite a bit. I got the Linksys model for under $50 - which I thought was worth it to keep from having to set up 2 monitors etc.LS
LouCypher Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 I've got an old Belkin OmniView PS/2 KVM switch that I have hooked up between two computers to share my 19" monitor. I've got seperate keyboards/mice hooked up, but it works great.
zipp51 Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 LS,I have been using an older Protec KVM for about 4 or 5 yrs.I can use my mouse to switch between sytems by holding down both buttons and back dragging it,or pressing ctrl, alt enter, and either 1 or 2 for selecting the one I want.I like the button idea better though, because I have had problems while playing games like UT where because of all the "intense mousing"(sounds good huh),I got switched.I payed about $130 for it back then how much was your Lynksys?I may sell the one I have and upgrade, anyone interested?
LS_Dragons Posted October 30, 2002 Author Posted October 30, 2002 Linksys model I got was $49 at Fry's. They had some other brand for about 29 - but I decided to go with a brand I know and trust for a few $$$ more. This thing is great. I want to go get 3 3 system version now so when I bring my laptop home I can plug it up and use my regular keyboard, mouse and monitor. That will run closer to $75. Oh well, I do this stuff so I can tell you gyus how to do it better.... heheheheLS
