its it possible to make a folder private on my new harddrive? it wont let me....

If its formatted NTFS, go to properties, sharing and security, and choose to make the folder private...

Sure. Make sure hard drive is formated NTFS.

Then:

My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View Tab > Uncheck "Use simple file sharing"

Then in my computer right click on hard drive and choose properties and then the Sharing tab.

Make sure "Do no share this folder" is checked. Then go to the "Security" tab and add the user or groups of users you wish to not have acccess and make sure that "Full Control" is set to Deny for all users and goups besides yourself. Then click ok.

i cant get to that simple file sharing box thing. i dont have it. im using windows xp home .

ps, gamehead, u know its ntfs. and im not that stupid . the make private box is grayed out, thats the problem

u can check the "make this folder private" box in the SHARING tab but u said it was grayed out so i dunno

You need to be able to see the Security tag in the Properties dialog of files and folders. There is a workaround for it on this page: Enable the Security Tab in Windows XP Home.

Then simply right-click the folder you want to keep private and remove all permissions (including inherited ones, try the Advanced tab), set the owner to yourself and put a permission for all for your username only.
