after my unattended installation finishes the resolution under Win XP SP2 remains at 640x480

here is the entry in my winnt.sif

    BitsPerPel=32
    Xresolution=1024
    YResolution=768

i also tried to use this utility: 1365VidChng.exe

but it gives me an error saying something like: "these values are not supported for this device..."

i tried

1024x768x16@60

800x600x16@60

and a couple of other values.

oh, and BTW i can change the resolution in the display properties dialog.

any suggestions?

This will mostly happen when there is no proper display driver installed for your video card (when you have the default Microsoft Video Card driver...)

So in order to work, you have to provide the correct driver for your video card using the Unattended Guide... $OEM$ folder + entries in winnt.sif

download your driver ATI or NVidia

i already downloaded both drivers, and referenced them in winnt.sif but im using vmware to test it all. maybe thats why none of these get installed, because vmware has a different video engine.

are there any vmware drivers that i can use an include in my unattended installation?

Yes you can extract VMware drivers in the ISO you will find installed in the WMware Program folder:

Program Files\VMware\VMware Workstation\windows.iso

Open the ISO file and extract the drivers you will find here:

CD\program files\VMware\VMware Tools\Drivers

Simply try this nothing else. In VMWare its what I had to do to get it at resolution I wanted. Adding the other stuff will mess it up if driver's don't install right with Virtual CRUD
