Bilou_Gateux
I'm currently testing an alternative method to download all needed Critical updates without using builtin download feature of XPCreate. The method use a small tool written by a team of russian authors.WUtooLWhat is WUtooL...Our program is a good companion to Windows Update. Windows update is required because of things like the MSBlast worm and other problems. But saving updates on a local drive is rather difficult for users. The updates are immediately removed after installation. This is not convenient and you will have to download the update pack again if you wish to patch any other computers with the same version. WUtooL will solve this problem. Launch the program, then go to the menu and click File >> Windows Update. WUtooL will take control of the download and save the patches to a special folder on your hard drive. Updating your operating system with this program is very simple. For example, now you can safely reboot computer while you are installing several updates. On the next restart, WUtooL will offer to continue your installation. The program has several new and convenient features such as command-line parameters, etc.1st/ install an OS with the latest Service Pack already slipstreamed and the recommended updates you need.ieOS=Windows 2000 + Service Pack 4 slipstreamedRecommended Updates=Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (Windows 2000 users)DirectX 9.0b [note: the current XPCreate version doesn't manage DirectX 9.0c]Microsoft Windows Journal ViewerMicrosoft .NET Framework version 1.1Microsoft .NET Framework language pack (foreign users)Windows Media Player 9 (Windows 2000 users) / 10 (Windows XP users)2nd/ run WUTool and scan and update your running box. GreenMachine
Thanks for that, Bilou. I had a quick look, and did not quite understand how to use it to simply download the fixes. Thanks again!
ZenLord
2nd/ run WUTool and scan and update your running box. You will have the option to save all Critical Updates. This could come in very handy!Has someone tested this tool already without IEcore installed? If this should work, then there is really no reason to keep it now, is there (provided you have alternatives of course, like Mozilla Firefox for IE, Media Player Classic for WMP, Trillian for MSN...)Zl. GreenMachine
I, personaly, will not be experimenting with removing ANY Windows components, let alone somethine as basic as IE. If that is your objective, I believe nuhi's excellent work with nLite may be your best solution.
