Astalavista Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 We all know this is the text that appears when we boot from our U.A. XP.Is there a way to Edit this text?I want to change it to "Have You Backed Up Your Software?" If yes Press Any key.
titou2k Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 it should be in i386/bootfix.binI deleted it so that no message appear.
Alanoll Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 titou2k is right on the money. Keep in mind that the text has to be of the same length.I use CDShell, so I have a custom message through that.
Astalavista Posted December 6, 2004 Author Posted December 6, 2004 pls give more info on how and what are the boundaries for editing the file.I want to change it to something else
eagle00789 Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 In that file is that text. just edit the text, but keep the length of the new text the same as the old one. if your new text is shorter, fill the rest with spaces
Alanoll Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 indeed. You're HEX editing the file...so that means the strings HAVE TO BE THE SAME LENGTH. If your's is shorter, add space, if it's larger...you have to make it smaller.
eagle00789 Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 there is no need for hex-editing. a simple editor like notepad is enough for it to be editable.
edmoncu Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 i believe notepad isn't recommended on editing binary files such as bootfix.bin.
Astalavista Posted December 7, 2004 Author Posted December 7, 2004 "Press Any Key to Boot From CD. Only if you have Made a Backup of all your data."I want to change it to this instead.
buletov Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 noup, it has to be the same lenght as the original...or shorter with spaces after
Astalavista Posted December 7, 2004 Author Posted December 7, 2004 then, is there a way to modify it?there must be a way.
