Lost Soul Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 hi my brother has a hp pavillion 700 desktop pc and we just did a clean install of xp pro on it and when ever we go to turn the pc off the way it works is this it turns off but gets to this screen that says its now safe to turn off your pc, but once it gets to that screen it dosnt do anything he has to hit the power button once at that screen to turn it offnow my question is, ?i hvnt seen this in xp and especially not on my pc, so im thinking this maybe a hardware issue, is there a way to fix this so it shuts off normally ? other then having to hit the power button once at that screen
Lost Soul Posted November 28, 2004 Author Posted November 28, 2004 i figured out the problem it was in his bios that the acpi had to be enabled
rupert86 Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 In 'Control panel' go to "Power Options'. Here you will see a special tab (it doesn't appear on dome systems, that's why its special) named APM. On this tab, there is only one line:"Enable Advanced Power Management on this PC". Put a check in its checkbox. Restart and then shut down. The PSU should switch off by itself.Note: If you don't see an APM tab, go into BIOS and enable APM/ACPI in Power Management. It should already be enabled or even not found in the BIOS since it is an HP mainboard and fewer options should be available to you in the BIOS.EDIT: OMG I just went to the washroom while typing this and when I'm back I see the prob has been solved. Seems people here are very smart indeed.
