XtremeMaC
hi thereI just upgraded my computer and left my avermedia tv card to my sister, so i need to get a new one. I've used asus tv box and avermedia studio 98. they were both okay but i'm not sure these days there are just too many brands.i've heard good things about winHauppaugeuser: colm just introduced a new brand for tv cards (well at least i wasn't looking at leadteks capture cards b4 )so does anyone recently bought a tv card?I only want a remote, tv capture at its best, a good air scan, i don't need fm/am but if its on the menu thanks! dcrowder32
I have an ATI and I do NOT like it. Software is poor and I get periodic BSOD's. I also hear good things about winHappauge, but have not used it.
DigeratiPrime
personally I use an Avermedia m150, its quality is indistinguishible from the Hauppauge ones I hear (same connexant chipsets) and its one of the few cards that work with XP Media Center, if you're into that. Newegg has it for $58 + $3shiphttp://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc....-100-007&depa=0and they have the new MCE remote (expensive) for $38 + $1shiphttp://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-100-851&depa=0I have this setup and like it alot.[EDIT] never had any issues or errors with this. They have the drivers on their site under OEM, but Microsoft also supports it in Windowsupdate.com. the remote also is just plug and play no setup or install is required, just dont remove the ir drivers in nLite. Noise
IMHO the Hauppauge TV cards are the best. They're not the cheapest, or the most expensive. But they have outstanding support and are always on top of their drivers. For under $200 you can pick up the awesome WinTV-PVR-350.
rendrag
i agree w/ those above... the hauppage are the best cards.
ChunkDog
I have an ATI and I do NOT like it. Software is poor and I get periodic BSOD's. I also hear good things about winHappauge, but have not used it.Do you have an AIW card, or a seperate tuner cad from ATI. I have an AIW 9700 Pro and it was giving me BSOD all the time. I found that the card doesn't like AGP Fast Writes enabled, so all you gotta do is turn off fast writes, and your BSOD nightmare will end.
Noise
I've had a couple AIW Radeon 9000's. I also have a WinTV card by Hauppauge. The Hauppauge card gives a FAR better picture. Plus the Hauppauge card has the mpg de/encoder in hardware where the ATI card does most codec'ing in software.
colm
I have a hauppauge winTV card (basic, no PVR etc) in my current PC and I cannot fault it. I'm not a huge fan of the Hauppauge software suite (winTV2000) but this may have been updated for the most recent cards. For tv viewing, I use an open source app called dscaler 4 - http://deinterlace.sourceforge.net/It doesnn't support all of the hardware out there, but if you're lucky you're in for a treat... Just got to thinking - wonder if my new card is supported.Hauppauge have actually licensed some of the technology of dscaler for their own application, so it's a cutting edge product, not just a run of the mill open source copy.--Colmhttp://dearbbc.blogspot.com
