munsy Posted November 19, 2004 Posted November 19, 2004 Hi can anybody help, I was trying to open msconfig (start/run/) but it comes up with a error windows cannot find "msconfig" try searching for it. Any help would be gladly appreciated and sorry if this is a basic question.
prathapml Posted November 20, 2004 Posted November 20, 2004 If you're trying to run msconfig on win2k - no, it won't run because there's no msconfig on windows 2000.But if its WinXP you're trying this on, maybe msconfig.exe got deleted for some reason. You can de-compress it and restore it from the install CD.

You can de-compress it and restore it from the install CD.or the refrence to the msconfig.exe in the registry got changed....using regedit.. checkHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\App Pathson the left pane look for Msconfig.exe and check the default value to see if it points to the exe file. should look similar to mine.
munsy Posted November 21, 2004 Author Posted November 21, 2004 Thanks for the reply guys and yes I am using XP Pro but checked my reg and can not see msconfig in the folder suggested so I presume I must have uninstalled it. Funny also my windows help menu does not work aswell comes up with the same error. If I do a search for msconfig it finds it and have now created a short cut to my desktop, so it is there but cant seem to get it from my run cmd. Will try to resolve it from my XP Disc.Any more help would be apprecisted, Dave.

prathapml Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 Hey munsy, do the below to get it back:1. Copy/paste the code below, into notepad.Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\MSCONFIG.EXE]@="C:\\WINDOWS\\PCHealth\\HelpCtr\\Binaries\\MSConfig.exe"2. Now save this as "msconfig.reg" (verify that it has a .REG extension and not .TXT).3. Double-click this file, to import the path into the registry. That's all.Hoping this helps.....
