mobile619 Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 Will the cd key supplied with my laptop for xp home work with a regular cd for xp home?
gamehead200 Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 If the CD-KEY is for an OEM CD, then the answer is no... If it is a retail CD-KEY, then it might work...
Astalavista Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 I hv the sony vaio z series ultra light. never tried.
Drewdatrip Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 The Key provided from sony is OEM. So if you can obtain an OEM cd then yes the key provided will work on an install of Xp home OEM on another amchine. However, you can only install the Xp you own on one machine. Having several versions all runnign with the same Key is illegal, and is a highly finable offence arroding to MS and their EULA.So if your intentins is to upgrade to another computer and you dont want to repurchase Xp again then your fine, however if you simply want to install it on another compuer in the house or at a friends house etc. then you are simply breaking the law.I rfer you to this MSFN rule:1. This is not a warez site! Links/Requests to warez and/or illegal material (porn, cracks, serials, etc..) will not be tolerated. Discussion of circumventing activation/timebombs/keygens or any other illegal activity will also not be tolerated. If you ignore any of the aforementioned you will receive a final warning. If you choose to continue, you will be banned without notice.|Drew|
mobile619 Posted November 22, 2004 Author Posted November 22, 2004 Im not looking to use it on another machine Im trying to do a clean install and since sony's cheap butt doesnt provide one and the only one I can seem to get is xp home retail I was hoping that would work. So I guess my next question is does anyone have an idea where I can get a xp home oem cd without a key because I do have a key for my laptop is on a sticker stuck to it.
Drewdatrip Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 But the sticker Is attactched to the machine you intened on installing it onto?If so Contact Sony or MS for OEM replacment Cd|Drew|
mobile619 Posted November 22, 2004 Author Posted November 22, 2004 Ill try that but I didnt see anything on their websites about it. Sony has a restore disk for 20 but Id rather not install all the junk that comes with it. Ill guess ill try ms.
XtremeMaC Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 home versions are not like pro's are corps, each cd is for your key well not really but u'll encounter activation problems,I had used my friends home cd & cd key bc mine was scratched(thanks to my sister) and after I installed it i've changed the key, but while i was trying to activate it through internet it complained about something and therefor I had to call up MS and ask for that billion digit activation code. (what a hassle) does that restore disk copy i386 folder or something like that? its probably ghost image? or disk image (powerquest) maybe try to load the image on those and extract the i386 folder? I dunno i'd try but its a long proces..or u can get another computer I've dell and it came with a nice oem cd and its easy to get rid of the dell support center
Astalavista Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 oh, i just remembered u can't slip stream service packs to the vaio laptop restore cds. those are all images. -
Jito463 Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 home versions are not like pro's are corps, each cd is for your key well not really but u'll encounter activation problemsNo you won't, unless your key has been activated a certain number of times before. At work, we use a simple OEM CD reburned (not an original) whenever we want to install on a customer's PC, and just use their CoA for the product key. Every (and I do mean every) actual Microsoft OEM CD is identical. The only real difference would be what service pack it has on it (which is why we use a burned disc for install, so it's got SP2 integrated - that and the SATA drivers are loaded on it so no F6).
mobile619 Posted November 27, 2004 Author Posted November 27, 2004 Just tried a oem xp home disk and my cd key supplied by sony doesnt work It may only work with sony's cds? is that write?
