BradBo
Hi,I lost the use of my printer the other day.I determined that the problem is with the USB port. Here is what it says in the hardware section:Sis 7001 USB Open Host Controller twice then,Unknow DevicethenUSB Root Hubtwice. It seems like my usb port is not working and my XP wont talk to my printer. What can I do now?I dont understand why the line "Unknow Device" would be added.I have the latest drivers for my Lexmark X73 printer and it has been working great for months now. Thanks,Brad
gamehead200
You have two choices:1. Uninstall and reinstall your printer.2. Update your USB Driver (if not updated) and uninstall and reinstall your printer. If none of this works, you have a problem!
zipp51
In the device manager remove the two references to unknown device. The usb root hub twice is ok those are your plug ins.You should have two with that reference. Now if there is a "safely remove hardware icon in your task bar click on it and see if it says "safely remove usb printer ".If yes then click and remove the usb cable from the socket. If no icon then remove anyway.Reboot and then plug in the usb printer cable. If your drivers are installed then you will get the message that the device is ready for use.If not you will be promted to install them. With my usb printer I had to install the drivers first and then plug it in.I use a hub for all my usb devices now and have less startup problems.Anyway it doesn't sound serious, and you may have to uninstall the software that came with the printer and remove any double entries as previously stated, and start from scratch. Guest
For unknown devices, put in a few driver discs for your stuff...and try to install the drivers...maybe it will detect drivers...
