ardi Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 I find it very annoying that file sharing blocks sharing of many harmless files on the C drive. For example, if I put a document on the desktop and try to retrieve it from another computer it won't let me do it. Same with anything in the Documents and Settings folders.A workaround is to put stuff I want to share on another partition or drive, but that is a lot of trouble and I don't always know in advance what I will be looking for. There must be better ideas out there. Is there a hack or a better strategy to give file sharing more flexibility?
tguy Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Ease of access to network shares sometimes depends on the OS you are using.Have you tried this:\\Computer\C$This will give you access to the C:\ drive of a PC called Computer. You will need Administrator's rights to get to it but from the sounds of it you probably already are.tguy
ardi Posted November 12, 2004 Author Posted November 12, 2004 thanks tguy, that looks promising, but...The command tries to connect me to the guest account (which is grayed out) and asks for the password. The guest account is turned on but there is no password or any way to add one.Is there an option in the command string that would let me in the main user account?
IcemanND Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 turn off simple file sharing and then you can change the permissions on the file.
