GLO Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Hi, I am setting up a PC for my neighbour and have created users for the husband and one for the wife. But i am the admin and i dont want that to show up at login time.Is it possible to remove the admin from the regular user login screen?
FAT64 Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 You could try this ...System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList]Value Name: AdministratorData Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)Value Data: (1 = show Administrator, 0 = hide Administrator)
GLO Posted October 28, 2004 Author Posted October 28, 2004 thanks, i will try that today, looking down the track...How will i log back in (on the rare occasion)
FAT64 Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 The only way you can do that is change the way they logon. Don't use the Welcome Screen.
FAT64 Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 So, use this setting instead ...System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]Value Name: DontDisplayLastUserNameData Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)Value Data: (1 = remove username)
tacticus85 Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 double ctrl alt del will show up the classic login when you are looking at the welcome screenplease dont think this is a joke i know what it used to do but that has been disabled with win xp
GLO Posted October 28, 2004 Author Posted October 28, 2004 how will this last one work for me?If it says dont show last user name?
FAT64 Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Well remembered tacitus85, I forgot all about that little trick! EDIT: all that reg tweak does is to force you to type in your username and password.
GLO Posted October 28, 2004 Author Posted October 28, 2004 You could try this ...System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList]Value Name: AdministratorData Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)Value Data: (1 = show Administrator, 0 = hide Administrator)HOw about if i do this to hide the Admin (Me) then when i need to log in as the admin I can do tacticus trick!double ctrl alt del will show up the classic login when you are looking at the welcome screenplease dont think this is a joke i know what it used to do but that has been disabled with win xpIs that feasible?
GLO Posted November 3, 2004 Author Posted November 3, 2004 You could try this ...System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList]Value Name: AdministratorData Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)Value Data: (1 = show Administrator, 0 = hide Administrator)I tried setting up this reg key as it wasnt there, but it did not remove the admin?Have i possibly missed something?
